The latest dining destination to open its doors in Glebe is ‘Bhoomi', a contemporary Indian restaurant paying homage to Mother Earth.

Bhoomi is the latest creation of passionate restaurateur Indrani Matta and is situated in the historical location previously occupied by the reputed Darling Mills Restaurant in the heart of Glebe. Bhoomi’s inspired dining experience offers up the best dishes from the Indian subcontinent enhanced with contemporary cooking techniques for a delicious twist.

At the heart of Bhoomi, is Head Chef Chanaka Nalin Gunasekarage. Originally from Sri Lanka, Chanaka has resided in Australia since 2008 and has worked closely with multiple Michelin Star and Hatted Chefs along his journey. Most recently he headed the reputed kitchen at Subcontinental by Longrain. At front of house is Restaurant Manager, Pushp Mehra, who has worked for the Hyatt, IHG, and Palazzo Versace, and was nominated for the TAA Awards NSW as the Rising Star of the Year in 2017.

Upon entering Bhoomi, hints of saffron, cinnamon and basmati will awaken diners’ appetites. At the Indian clay oven known as Tandoor, Bhoomi’s chefs are hard at work infusing unique smoky flavours into the menu. Signature dishes include Palak Paneer Gnocchi, Dal Chawal Arancini with Pickled Mayo, and Lamb Shanks with Khicharee Risotto. At the full service bar, mixologists craft cocktails infused with spices and ingredients found in the Indian pantry. Their version of a margarita, The Smoky Chigali, is not to be missed. The cocktail is a combination of smokey mezcal, jalapeno syrup and tamarind, rimmed with paprika and served smoked with apple wood.

“The innovative menu and exceptional interior at Bhoomi brings the elements of earth to life,” says Indrani Matta, Owner of Bhoomi. “Diners can experience the splendour of Indian cuisine and hospitality on a new level. The combination of modern and authentic dishes means there is something for everyone.”

Indrani is known for her love of creating special dining experiences in beautiful spaces. Her previous project, The Spice Room, sits in a prime location at Circular Quay and is rated as one of the top Indian restaurants in Sydney. Likewise, Bhoomi is destined to delight as a dining, drinks and event destination. The venue is able to fit up to 220 guests for personalised events, guaranteed to leave guests satisfied, yet wanting more.

The Bhoomi team are dedicated to creating lasting experiences and relationships. Afternoon Curry Club is an exclusive membership for lunch guests, which is provided free of charge when diners spend $100 a table for lunch or alternatively can be purchased for $25. Members receive complimentary drinks when dining and can register for monthly masterclasses with Head Chef Chanaka to soak up his extensive knowledge and learn about his cooking secrets.

The team are also avidly committed to caring for the earth and the community. Sustainable waste management practices, energy saving appliances and ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ training practices for staff are at the core of the restaurant’s operation. A proportion of Bhoomi’s business is also given to the I=CHANGE initiative, an organisation that supports the causes of feeding Australians in crisis, educating rescued children and ending violence against women.

Bhoomi is located at 134 Glebe Point Road, Glebe and is open for lunch Wednesday to Sunday 12pm to 3pm, and dinner from Monday to Sunday 5pm to 10pm.
