Following the stunning recent success of The Credeaux Canvas, Lambert House Enterprises producer Les Solomon has announced an exciting follow-up production: smart, sexy, funny and provocative: THE SHAPE OF THINGS. It opens for a five week season at the newly-refurbished Flight Path Theatre in Marrickville from January 7th.

The Credeaux Canvas was Sydney’s first show to open after lockdown and played 11 weeks and 53 shows to enthusiastic audiences and rave reviews. Solomon’s latest offering The Shape of Things by Neil LaBute (The Mercy Seat, Reasons To Be Happy) is likewise a smart, funny, well-observed and provocative play – and again toys with questions of art and sex.

The title is a reference to the future of art and the shock of the new to come. Adapted into a hit film with Paul Rudd, a 2003 STC version of the show starred Brendan Cowell and Leanna Wallsman. The play has now come to be regarded as a modern American classic.

“I was particularly keen to present this play,” said Solomon, “as it is something of a companion piece to The Credeaux Canvas. “Both plays question art: what constitutes a work of art and what is real and what is not. It’s a tantalising, enthralling comic drama.”

Adam is a kind, likeable, but shy and awkward young man until his life is changed almost overnight when he meets Evelyn. The young woman takes charge of his life, his body and just about every part of him as she re -shapes him in a new image. La Bute’s tough, humorous and sexy play examines male-female relations… with a shocking and unexpected sting in its tail.

“The Shape of Things is a mighty play, a classic of modern commercial theatre, and one of the best scripts to come out of the United States since The Crucible.” - TMA Theatre Archive.

The production stars Samson Alston as Adam whose performance in The Credeaux Canvas has been acclaimed as one of the best of the year. He’s joined by three other outstanding young actors – all recent graduates of The Actors Centre. Georgia Brindley plays the controversial leading role of Evelyn, Tayman Jamae is the temperamental Phillip and Olivia Hall Smith is the likeable and innocent Jenny. Les Solomon directs, assisted by Rachel Marley (star of The Credeaux Canvas) with lighting again by Larry Kelly.

The Shape of Things by Neil LaBute plays Tuesdays to Saturday at 7.30pm plus Saturday 2pm and Sunday 6pm from Jan 8 to 31, Flight Path Theatre, 142 Addison Rd Marrickville.

Previews 8th and 9th Jan | Press Nights Sun 10 Jan and Tues 12 Jan.
Tickets $45/$35 conc. Previews all tickets $25.
