NSW Parliament Plein Air Painting Prize Back For 2018
The NSW Parliament Plein Air Painting Prize is an acquisitive art prize of $20,000, awarded for the best ‘plein air’ painting of NSW subject. The NSW Parliament Plein Air Painting Prize is an annual event and is recognised by plein air artists throughout Australia.
En plein air is a French expression that means “in the open air.” It is used by artists to describe the art of outdoor painting, capturing landscapes and views in natural light.
This allows the artist to engage with nature, and observe the transitory effects of light which can be recorded in the painting. Contemporary Australian artists paint ‘en plein air’ both in the bush and the city.
The NSW Parliament Plein Air Painting Prize encourages artists to embrace the tradition and feel of ‘plein air’ to create new art works depicting subjects in the beautiful state of NSW.
Acceptable mediums include those traditionally associated with the practice of ‘en plein air’ painting (oil, acrylic, gouache etc.) and, to a lesser degree, work encompassing collage, drawing or other mixed media will be considered. You may enter up to two works in the Plein Air Art Prize.
In 2016 and 2017 several paintings depicting Sydney scenes were included in the Selected Finalists.
Entries will be accepted from Monday 2 July to Monday 6 August 2018 via electronic submission.
For more information, including important dates, conditions of entry and the entry form please visit the Plein Air website or phone 02 9230 2054.
