Over 130 Young Australian Women Receive Life-Changing Education Scholarships
The Harding Miller Education provides high achieving young Australian women experiencing hardship with the tools, resources and support to help them reach their full potential.
The 4-year scholarships are valued at over $20,000 and since its launch in 2015 Harding Miller Education Foundation has supported over 500 scholarship recipients.
This year marks the first year the Foundation has a scholarship recipient in each state and territory.
“Women in Australia continue to be underrepresented in positions of power and over represented in under paid jobs. The Harding Miller Education Foundation is on a mission to change this and we are very excited to be presenting another 136 scholarships this year,” says Cara Varian, Executive Director at the Harding Miller Education Foundation.
“Unfortunately, many girls in economically disadvantaged families don’t have access to the equipment and support that others from higher socio-economic families do. Our scholarship program focuses on providing these students with the tools, resources and support to help them reach their full potential.”
“Since our launch in 2015 we have received such strong support from our incredible sponsors, partners, educators and volunteers across Australia which has enabled our Foundation to grow and support even more young women. This year is particularly exciting for us as it’s the first year the Foundation has a recipient in every state and territory. Each of the girls are so deserving of the scholarship support and we look forward to seeing them shine in coming years.”
“We have been overwhelmed with the success of the program to date. More than 50% of our recipients hold a leadership position at their school and 85% have identified a clear pathway to tertiary education. This year is also the first year we will have recipients graduating from Year 12. We cannot wait to celebrate their success this year,” adds Cara Varian.
401 students from 217 schools applied for Harding Miller Education Scholarships this year and 136 students will be provided with a scholarship.
The successful recipients will receive new laptops, high speed internet, face-to-face and online tutoring, subject and career guidance, mentoring and financial support to help cover the costs of uniforms, books and school expenses.
The 4-year scholarships are awarded to students in Year 9 through to Year 12 with each scholar required to show accountability and commitment throughout the program.
