Phoenix Collective showcases classical music with a uniquely Australian edge. ‘Excitement &
Flair’ features music from the Baroque period brought to life on a magnificent French
double-manual harpsichord built by Australian instrument maker Carey Beebe. Accomplished
national and international performers Dan Russell (violin); Christian Lillicrap (harpsichord); and
Andrew Wilson (cello) come together to perform masterworks from the Italian and German
Baroque period by Tartini, Corelli, Biber, Vivialdi and J.S. Bach. The audience will be thrilled by
both fast, virtuosic playing, and rich, sublime melodies by timeless composers.

For Phoenix Collective Director-Violinist Dan Russell, “This is a truly intimate and personal
concert with an exquisite harpsichord matched perfectly with violin and cello.”

“I’m excited to be playing such incredible music on a wonderful instrument with two passionate
musicians,” says Harpsichordist Christian Lillicrap. “It’s the sound of the harpsichord that really
makes the music from the Baroque period come to life!”

"This fabulous mix of German and Italian Baroque masterpieces full of explosive fireworks and
chiaroscuro, will be enormous fun to play and entertaining to watch,” says Cellist Andrew
Wilson.

Built by Carey Beebe, the French double-manual Harpsichord is on tour courtesy of Central Coast Conservatorium of Music. The instrument was purchased by music lovers of the Central Coast as a result of funds raised at the Crossroads Festival of Chamber Music – an initiative of Ruth and Peter Donnelly, now under the leadership of local violin doyen Charmian Gadd. The upcoming 2018 Chamber Music Concert series by Phoenix Collective offers a range of exciting music genres: the charm of Mozart’s classical genius; the passion of Argentinean tango legend Astor Piazzolla; the intense emotions of the late romantic; and the meditative calm of minimalist music.
