Australia’s favourite running festival celebrates 20 years

Registrations are now open for Australia’s largest running festival, Blackmores Sydney Running Festival, returning to its spectacular courses on Sunday, 19 September 2021. Marking an incredible 20th anniversary milestone this year, thousands of participants of all fitness levels will take the opportunity to walk, skip and run across the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge, traffic-free.

Boasting incredible courses that take in Sydney’s most scenic and iconic landmarks, the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival features four incredible events with a distance for all ages and abilities:

  • Blackmores Family Fun Run/Walk (approx 3.5kms)
  • Blackmores Bridge Run (10kms)
  • Blackmores Half Marathon (21kms)
  • Blackmores Sydney Marathon (42.2kms)

Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres said many athletes and runners of all abilities would be looking forward to the return of this popular event.

“The Sydney Running Festival is an iconic event for the city, each year attracting thousands of participants to enjoy the unique and unforgettable experience of crossing the Sydney Harbour Bridge on foot, without traffic.

“It also attracts global attention through media coverage and streaming, showcasing to the world the enviable lifestyle and natural beauty of Sydney, putting it front of mind for future visitors dreaming of an Australian escape,” Mr Ayres said.

Participants challenging themselves to a longer distance can take part in the Blackmores Sydney Marathon, Blackmores Half Marathon or the Blackmores Bridge Run which finish at the iconic Sydney Opera House.

For the families and fun runners, there’s the Blackmores Family Fun Run / Walk which will finish at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

All runners are invited to celebrate their success at the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival Post Race Recovery Village located in the Royal Botanic Gardens. Participants can enjoy food outlets, live entertainment, brand activations all set against stunning harbour views.

Blackmores Sydney Running Festival has partnered with the NSW Government and its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW to bring this incredible legacy event back to the people of Sydney.

The event will be run in line with NSW Health COVID-safe requirements and with extensive COVIDSafe procedures to ensure the safety of all participants volunteers and the wider community.

Runners unable to visit Sydney this year can still take part from wherever they are in the world and will receive a commemorative 20th Anniversary medal. All the action from the event can also be viewed live on Network Ten and EuroSport Asia from 7:00am, on Sunday 19 September.

Participants are encouraged to make a difference when they run with the Run for Free promotion, which enables runners to claim a rebate on their entry fee when they raise more than $500 for one of the official charities.

A legacy event of the Sydney Olympics, the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival has raised more than $22M for Australian charities since its inception. This year, the event has partnered with the Leukemia Foundation, Beyond Blue and Children’s Cancer Institute as the headline charities, with more than 100 other official charities to be supported by people taking part in the event.

The Blackmores Sydney Running Festival is supported by the NSW Government, through Destination NSW.
