Pachamama Festival 2018

When:
Every day until Sat 16 Jun 2018
Cost:
$10
Details:
Join us at this year's Pachamama Festival to uncover stories and knowledge of the night sky through live music, film screenings, dance performances, workshops and a yarn circle with local Indigenous Elders. Held as part of Open Inner West 2018.

Opening night on Friday 15 June will celebrate a fusion of Latin American and Australian rhythms, headlined by the Maroubra Caves Crew featuring Pamela Rodriguez (Teyuna Collective), Feña Coloma (Teyuna Collective), Carlos Arango (Cumbiamuffin) and supported by dance performances and video projections.

The festival continues all day Saturday 16 June, celebrating the night sky through:

~ A free yarn session with local Indigenous Elders sharing their stories.

~ Film screenings traversing the southern skies from Latin America to Australia, including a screening of Warwick Thornton’s film 'We Don't Need a Map' exploring the cultural significance of the Southern Cross for Australia’s First People; and ‘Witness', which follows a young Argentinian's journey exploring his alien encounter experience with astrophysicists and Guarani Indigenous Elders.

~ Workshops experiences in chocolate making using Brazilian family recipes; sustainable basket weaving with recycled plastic bags and yarn; and Deep Ecology teachings with renowned environmental activist, John Seed.

~ Pachamama street market stalls full of food and fair trade products.

This project was supported by funding from Inner West Council for Open Inner West 2018, 10 days celebrating culture and diversity in June.
Location:
Addison Road Picture House, 142 Addison Road, Marrickville
