National Science Week is an annual celebration of science that runs in August throughout Australia. Botanic Gardens & Centennial Parklands organise the largest Sceince Week events in NSW, from the Blue Mountains to Sydney's CBD.

Don Your Superhero Outfit and Walk with the Dinosaurs for National Science Week at Centennial Parklands

On Saturday 18 August 2018, Centennial Park will turn into Jurassic Park as Erth’s Dinosaurs will roam as a key attraction at the Science in the Swamp – Dinosaurs vs Superpowers event. The dinosaurs will be joined by acrobatic superheroes, robots and mad scientists, as a fantastic variety of science based exhibits descend on the Park for National Science Week.

Science in the Swamp returns for its sixth year, offering an amazing free, family-fun day out, with a whole host of new science shows, spectacular wildlife, superheroes, and science madness. This event will feature over 30 food and science stalls this year making it the biggest science week event yet.

Other events lined up for science week includes the popular Astronomy in the Park. Plus, enjoy a rare opportunity to explore the park after dark and create some fantastic artwork with the spectacular Valley of Light workshop.

Other highlights include:

Children’s Discovery Museum where they can discover the amazing superpowers of nature
Wildlife displays from the Australian Wildlife Society, Birdlife Australia and the Frog and Tadpole Society
Superhero acrobats
Tony the carp whisperer (and his giant carp)
Fizzics Education water rockets, liquid nitrogen or other experiments

This Inspiring Australia initiative is supported by both the Australian and NSW Governments as part of Sydney Science Festival in National Science Week.

Discover the Wonderful World of Plant Sciences at the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney for National Science Week

Explore the wonders of science with the stunning backdrop of the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, at the inaugural Living Laboratory event on 11 August 2018. In this free National Science Week program, adults and children will get the opportunity to explore the scientist’s labs, see behind-the-scenes in the herbarium and discover amazing plants and wildlife at stalls throughout the Garden.

This year, the Garden will be alive with animals, as Australian Wildlife Displays bring all numbers of creepy-crawlies, slimy frogs and large mammals for you to see and even touch. Relax by the mainstage as live music filled the Garden and scientists perform talks and engaging experiments.

The Garden’s PlantClinic will be opening its doors for some amazing behind-the-scenes activities, where adults and kids can discover the weird and wonderful world of plant sciences. Meet the Garden’s scientists and horticulturalists and find out about the amazing work they do to grow our knowledge of the world we all live in.

Other highlights include:

A main stage, with live music and scientists who will be performing talks and engaging animal displays
A Science Safari where children complete 6 challenges to explore the Gardens
Discover all sorts of amazing animals, from frogs to bats to birds
Tours of the herbarium and Gardens, with demonstrations on how to make your own specimens
Plant sales and plant identification stalls for visitors to ask our experts all the questions they have
Behind the scenes activities at the PlantClinic research base.

Other events for National Science Week at the Gardens includes Astronomy at the Calyx, Plan Bee: Create your own Bee Hotel and Secret Science.

Go WILD! Science in the Wild returns to the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan

Venomous snakes, nutty scientists and dinosaurs will take over the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan on the 11 August 2018 as part of National Science Week.

Science in the Wild is a free event for all ages, where kids can discover the fun of science and enjoy learning about plants and animals in the stunning outdoors. This year showcases scientists at work, amazing animal displays, fantastic chemical concoctions and much more.

The Gardens are also running two extra events for adults this year as part of national science week, Stars over the Garden and Secrets of the Seed Vault.

Highlights of Science in the Wild include:

Erth’s roaming dinosaurs
Stalls from leading science groups such as TESLA, The Australian Museum and Geological Society
Opportunities to get up close to amazing native wildlife at numerous animal stalls
