Join us for a huge celebration of the slam scene in Sydney with poets from Newtown to Double Bay, Rockdale to Surry Hills.


Mbombela Stories | 12-12.45pm [performance]

Xolile Mabuza, Menzi Mkhonza & Noah Phiri (Word in my Mouth Poetry Slam WMPS) bring their performance style all the way to Sydney from their small town of Mbombela, where they are making poetry part of the culture.

How to Tell African Stories | 1-2pm [workshop]

After the WMPS performance, stay with us for their workshop! Having hosted bestselling South African authors and poetry slam champions at their performance shows and workshops in their hometown of Mbombela, Word In My Mouth are bringing everything they’ve learned to share

Unraveling Ascensão | 1-2pm [performance]

The Women of Melbourne Spoken Word work to unravel and outlive oppressive stories and systems. An intimate and evocative work with six spoken word artists.

A Chat with Kaie Kellough | 3.30-4.30pm [talk]

Canadian poet Kaie Kellough is a brave sound scientist. He investigates and deconstructs language, breathing life into stories of the Afro-Caribean diaspora. Kaie is chatting with Spanish-Australian audio story-teller Belinda Lopez.

Alien Flower In Fundamentalist Fields by Deborah Emmanuel | 5-6pm [performance]

Deborah Emmanuel debuts her solo show about cultural ambiguity, citizenship, womanhood and the many states of belonging we can experience as human beings.

Australian Poetry Slam NSW Final | The Barnet Long Room, Customs House | 8-10pm

Performing writers from every region of NSW will seize the microphone and electrify the audience.

From Byron to Albury, Blacktown to Kempsey, the voice of a state comes to life in one poetry packed night.

Meet other people working in the spoken word scene. Exchange visions, mission and actions for eduction programs, gigs, audiences and artform.

Narrative Sound: Master Class with Kaie Kellough | 11.30am - 1.30pm [workshop]

Kaie Kellough looks at the sounds within words. He finds harmonies and melodic worlds embedded in verbs and extended vowels. Kaie's work is like nothing you've ever heard.

Australian Poetry Slam National Final | Sydney Opera House | 7-10pm

Writers #ignitethemic shredding taboos and inspiring standing ovations.
