This year, the 1er d’Artillerie de La Marine Inc., a French naval artillery re-enactment group, will delight visitors with full Napoleonic uniforms and engaging historical displays. They will join 60+ stalls of professional merchants selling authentic French items such as saucissons, foie-gras, pâtés and other terrines; macarons, croissants, baguettes; French cheeses; books, magazines, DVDs and Blu-Rays in French language; jewellery and fashion accessories inspired by French culture; French vintage small furniture and poster reproductions, and so on.
This market is also a festival to celebrate all things French with food to eat on site such as a merguez (sausage) barbecue, raclette, sweet and savoury crêpes and croque-monsieurs while listening to some French music in the background. Rides, games and face painting will enchant the younger crowd. It promises to be a fabulous social or family outing!
A number of well-known French patisseries and providers from all over Sydney are supplying the market which attracts an estimated 7000 visitors per year, while members of FANS (The French-speaking Association of the North Shore) are channelling their inner Manu Feildel by baking up a storm and donating quiches, cakes and other treats to be sold at the market and raise funds for the French-English bilingual program run at the school.
