Super Rats Romanian Folk Band

When:
Sun 03 Feb 2019
Cost:
$25
Details:
Convinced not a lot of good comes out of Canberra? Next February 3rd brings something sweet from the Capital, at last! Classic Romanian music, played in authentic style on traditional instruments including the 145-string cimbalom (a giant dulcimer whacked with sticks)!

Super Rats, appearing at Marrickville’s Django Bar 7pm Sunday Feb 3rd 2019, play music from the gypsy neighbourhoods of old Bucharest. This rich tradition combines many influences: raw Balkan village folk, intricate Rom and Turkish music, old central-European restaurant and cafe repertoire, even jazz.

After over a decade of study in Romania with master traditional musicians, cimbalom player Tim Meyen formed Super Rats to present virtuosic, no-holds-barred music from the golden age of Romanian urban folk. After appearances throughout the Canberra region and at Illawarra folk festival in January 2019, they’re bringing their special odd-yet-good folk sounds to Sydney for the first time. Please join them for a truly memorable Canberra sound bite!
