Computer games are played by over 90% of humans below 17 years of age. What are the implications for our society and is it good or bad?
Besides entertainment, games are also changing the way we live and do business. Could playing a game be more effective in learning than reading from a text book or oral instruction? Research shows there is a high degree of engagement when playing a game which could lead to higher retention and more effective transfer of information.
A psychologist could help a patient overcome various phobias with guided virtual experiences using ‘gamification’ and young consumers will certainly gravitate more to companies who offer a game appeal in the way they conduct their business.
This talk will examine some of these issues and why there is no turning back.
Seinwai Chew has been implementing courses in Games Development in St Leonards Campus, TAFE NSW for the last 10 years. All her teachers are young and current games developers and gamers. She runs many games events for the community such as Games Jams and Games Meetups on a regular basis.
