POLISH FILM FESTIVAL SYDNEY comes this month to Palace Norton Street for the very first time, bringing captivating stories and the most talked-about Polish films released theatrically within the last two years.

The 2019 Polish Film Festival Sydney will take place from 26 October to 9 November exclusively at Palace Norton Street in Leichhardt. The Festival aims to present a range of contemporary, award winning works and box office hits from renowned and up and coming Polish filmmakers.

The 2019 Sydney edition will feature a selection of eight titles and mark the NSW premiere for all of them. The Festival will open with THE MESSENGER (AKA Kurier) by Władysław Pasikowski - the newest action spy thriller inspired by true events.

THE MESSENGER tells the incredible story of a real-life superhero – the legendary Courier from Warsaw, Jan Nowak Jeziorański, a Polish spy whose lonely mission was to decide the fate of Poland and World War II. Pursued by hostile intelligence agencies, Jan Nowak carried top secret information between occupied Warsaw and London, where he met with British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. He travelled multiple times through German occupied Europe, narrowly escaping capture during missions thought impossible at the time.
Selection of the opening film commemorates the 75th anniversary of the outbreak of Warsaw Uprising, the most significant World War II resistance operation against Germany that commenced on 1 August 1944.

Another highlight of the 2019 program is an animated masterpiece presented at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, based on a book by one of the greatest journalists of the 20th century, Ryszard Kapuściński. ANOTHER DAY OF LIFE by Damian Nenow and Raúl de la Fuente is a gripping account of the collapse of Portuguese colonialism in Angola brought to the screen through spectacular 3D animation, documentary and live-action footage, perfectly reflecting the signature style of Kapuściński's world renowned reportage. It has won, among others, Best Animation Award at the European Film Festival (European equivalent of the Oscars).

Also in the program:
The Australian Premiere of PIŁSUDSKI, the newly released biopic about Polish political leader Józef Piłsudski, considered by many to be the founding father of the Second Polish Republic.

PLANET SINGLE 2 & PLANET SINGLE 3 – sequels to the 2016 smash hit that attracted almost two million viewers, becoming the second most popular film of the year.

The Festival will close with THE BUTLER by Filip Bajon, an epic tale inspired by true events, spanning 45 years and following the fate of one Prussian family and three nations inhabiting the former Polish-German borderland – Kashubs, Poles and Germans. It premiered at the 2018 Gdynia Film Festival where it won the Silver Lions for best feature as well as three other awards, including best leading male actor and best original score.

The POLISH FILM FESTIVAL SYDNEY is organised under the honorary patronage and with the support of the Consulate General of Republic of Poland in Sydney and as well as the Polish Film Institute. The 2019 event is also supported by Australia Study (Major Sponsor), Lebara and Business Tax & Money House (Leadership sponsors), Benefit Legal Lawyers (Supporting Sponsor) and Korpol International (Affiliate Sponsor).
